Luther O. Brickey

Mr. Luther O. Brickey, age 98 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Friday, December 14, 2012, at Capital Region Medical Center. Luther was born on August 21, 1914, in Brumley, Mo., a son of James T. and Bessie J. Beard Brickey. He was married on April 6, 1935, in California, Mo., to Barcie Beatrice McCulloch, who preceded him in death on June 23, 1998. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Luther graduated from Bagnell High School in Miller County, Mo. He was employed with Tweedie Shoe Factory for over 30 years, worked at Gerbes East Store, and retired from the Missouri Highway Patrol in the late 1980s. After his retirement Luther served as a doorkeeper with the Missouri Senate at the Capitol. He was a member of the Jefferson Lodge #43 A.F. & A.M. He enjoyed watching western movies and being outdoors, especially fishing with his family. Survivors include: one daughter, Patricia L. Strader and her husband Dennis of Jefferson City, Mo.; two sons, Robert L. Brickey of Yuma, Ariz. and Larry V. Brickey and his wife Arleta of Jefferson City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Shawn Strader, Michael Strader, Keith Brickey and his wife Jeannine, Karen Brickey, Leigh Ann Brickey, Johnny Rico and his wife Kriss, and Vivian Graff; seven great-grandchildren, Kalen Brickey, Krista Brickey, Kurtis Brickey, Kari Lofton, Michael Salazar, Louie Salazar, and Anita Hawkins; and five great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Barcie Brickey; one daughter-in-law, Rosalind Brickey; five sisters, Emma McIntyre, Ruby Jennings, Phyllis Reed, Cecil Copeland, and Wilma Chaney; one brother, Edgar Brickey; and two infant brothers. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2012, with a Masonic Service to be held at 12:00 noon in the Freeman Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2012, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Robert Erickson and the Reverend Dr. David Henry officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter or the Callaway Hills Animal Shelter.
