William Gerald Horvath

William Gerald Horvath, 70, of Holts Summit, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born November 2, 1942, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late William John and Mary (Wilhelm) Horvath. He was a graduate of Fairview High School in Jennings, Mo. On April 29, 1967, William was united in marriage to JoAnn Casey, who survives at their home. William worked as a police officer with the Jennings Police Department for 29 years, where he was a shift commander and a detective, and served on the St. Louis Metropolitan Major Case Squad. He also worked in the radio shop at the Missouri State Highway Patrol. William was a veteran of the United States Air Force from 1960 - 1964. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Florissant, Mo., for thirty-two years. He was also a member of the Legion of a Thousand Men at the Pink Sisters in St. Louis, and the Fraternal Order of Police. After moving to Jefferson City in 1998, he became a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, where he was also a active member of Perpetual Adoration and Christ Renews His Parish. William enjoyed restoring old cars, woodworking, handyman things, fishing and hunting. He loved spending time with his family and giving his grandchildren rides on his golf cart. Along with his wife JoAnn, William is also survived by four sons: Anthony Horvath (wife Erin) of Linn, Mo.; Jeffrey Horvath (wife Mary Jane) of Wentzville, Mo.; Jason Horvath (wife Jenay) of Troy, Mo.; Nicholas Horvath (wife Kelley) of Corbin, Ky.; three sisters: Judy Horvath of O'Fallon, Mo.; Kathy Kushins (husband Bud) of Spanish Lake, Mo.; Betty Condren of Maryland Heights, Mo.; and 13 grandchildren: Jeremy, Megan, Amanda, David, Gabriella, Julianna, Adam, Allison, Corey, Zackerey, Joey, Louey and Kasey. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 13, 2012, at St. Peter Catholic Church, with Fr. Tony Viviano officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors, will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
