Ruth Leonard, 80, of Holts Summit, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2012, at her home. Ruth was born in Jefferson City, Missouri on January 9, 1932, the daughter of Robert and Florence Melcher. On November 21, 1950, she was united in marriage to Eddie Leonard at St. Martins Church in St. Martins, Missouri. She attended Elston Elementary school and Jefferson City High School. Ruth was employed by the Oberman Manufacturing Company for several years, after which Eddie and Ruth operated a horse boarding barn at their farm in Holts Summit, where Ruth cared for the livestock. She was a charter member of the Capital Boot and Saddle Club and served as secretary for several years. She was also a member of the Heart of America Tennessee Walking Horse Association, and served as Futurity secretary for many years. Ruth loved her animals - her horses, dogs and especially Joie, her companion cat. She enjoyed raising and showing Tennessee Walking Colts at halter and was very successful doing it. Ruth was a member of Concord Baptist Church, where one of her greatest joys was being a member and participating in the Hope Sunday School Class. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Eddie, of Holts Summit. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert Jr.; and one sister, Wanda Lee Dean. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2012, at Concord Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum.
