Emil G. Ortmeyer Sr., 97, of Taos, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Jefferson City Manor. He was born March 14, 1915, in Cole County, a son of John and Ida (Wunderlich) Ortmeyer. He attended Trinity Lutheran School. Emil was united in marriage, after he joined the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, to his only true love, Helen W. Sanning, on May 6, 1936. This union was blessed with 69 years before Helen preceded him in death on February 24, 2006. Emil was a farmer and worked as a painter for over 30 years for William Goldammer, Willard Stockman and Fred Verslues. Emil is survived by four sons: Emil G. Ortmeyer Jr. of Jefferson City, John A. Ortmeyer of Taos, Louis R. Ortmeyer of Taos, Michael A. Ortmeyer of Taos; eight daughters: Patricia E. Fromme of Taos, Jo Ann Kliethermes of Jefferson City, Lucille C. Veltrop of Jefferson City, Ruth J. Van Loo of Lohman, Mary G. Eichholz of Taos, Helen M. Winge of Jefferson City, Rose Ann P. Ortmeyer of Jefferson City, Brenda J. Rieke of Jefferson City; 24 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, one granddaughter, Vicki Eichholz-Schulte and one son-in-law, Jackson Fromme. Friends will be received from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2012, at the Taos Knights of Columbus Hall, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 3, 2012, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Wayne Boyer officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Francis Xavier School Building Fund.
