Raymond Joseph Kauffman

Raymond Joseph Kauffman, 67, of Lohman, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at his home with his family at his side. He was born December 22, 1944, in Jefferson City, Missouri, a son of the late Francis H. and Edith M. (Poetker) Kauffman. He was a 1962 graduate of Helias Catholic High School. On May 1, 1965, Ray was united in marriage to Janet J. Rackers, who survives at their home. Ray started in construction in 1963. He worked for several companies over the years including Overhead Door, Capital Installers, FAB Building Center from 1984 - 1998 (co-owner from 1988 - 1998), and Scruggs Lumber Company from 2003 - 2011. He was a veteran of the Army Reserves at Fort Leonard Wood from September 8, 1962 to March 5, 1963. Ray was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and was a past-member of the St. Martin Parish Council and Financial Committee. He was also a member of Marriage Encounter and Cursillo. He served on the Board at Centertown Fire Department and Regional West Fire Department, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Ray enjoyed playing golf, crappie fishing, coon and rabbit hunting, traveling and taking pictures. He also enjoyed farming with his brother Jerry. Along with his wife Janet, Ray is also survived by a daughter: Audrey Kauffman Johanns of Jefferson City; a son: David Kauffman (wife Diane) of St. Louis; six grandchildren: Olivia, Rebecca and Damon Johanns, Jordan, Ethan and Rachel Kauffman; two brothers: Robert Kauffman (wife Joan) of Jefferson City and Jerome Kauffman (wife Rita) of Jefferson City; and a brother-in-law: Richard Wankum of Jefferson City. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Rita Wankum and Jane Kauffman. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at St. Martin Catholic Church, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2012, at St. Martin Catholic Church, with Fr. Edwin A. Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Martin Catholic Church Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Martin's Expansion Fund, Helias Foundation or the Samaritan Center.
