LaVerne Burch Thompson, 93, died Friday, August 3, 2012, at the Sangre de Cristo Hospice and Palliative Care Facility, Pueblo, Colorado, with family by her side. She was born October 30, 1918, in Linn Creek, Missouri to Bessie (Prewitt) and George M. Burch. Her father was a bridge builder for The Great Osage River Project which had been recognized as one of the greatest engineering and construction feats of its time. Her mother was a homemaker known to all for her wonderful pies. She married her lifelong love, Paul Dean Thompson, son of Amanda Myrtle (Wornell) and John Grant Thompson, on June 30, 1934 in Lake Ozark, Missouri. LaVerne was a homemaker while her husband was a Credit Manager at Sears for 30 years. They had celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 30, 1999. Her interests included family, sewing, cook books and cooking. She worked odd jobs during World War II and was a devoted, loving wife and mother throughout her life. Laverne Thompson is survived by sons, Larry Dean (Theodora Tsiouvaras) and Lonny Paul (ex-daughter-in-law, Sylvia Porten) Thompson; and her only granddaughter, Sarah Marie Thompson born June 16, 1995 in Pueblo, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Dean Thompson on September 22, 2000; her daughter, Delores Jean Thompson born April 4, 1935 and passed September 4, 1937 of Whooping Cough (Pertussis). She was also preceded in death by her sister, LaWanda June (Burch) Williams on September 25, 2007; and her brother-in-law William V. Williams on May 14, 2012 in Sylvania, Ohio. She leaves numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews behind and greatly loved the letters and calls from her cousin, Helen (Prewitt), and Bob Vernon of Osage Beach, Missouri, and her nieces and nephew, Patricia Thompson Pfaff of Mims, Florida and Jim and Lucille Thompson of Leeton, Missouri. Funeral Services will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1706 Roselawn Road, Pueblo, Colorado on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Jill VanderWal officiating.
