Jay W. Shryock

Jay W. Shryock, 90, of Jefferson City, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Oak Tree Villas. He was born November 26, 1921, in Stephens, Mo., the son of the late Ward and Ivie (Smith) Shryock. Jay attended Truitt School and graduated from Fulton High School in 1939. Jay served from 1943-1946 as a Sergeant with the Army Air Forces and was stationed in the China-Burma-India Theater with the famous 20th Bomber Command Base, the history making organization who's B-29 Superfortress struck Japan. He loved the automobile industry and spent his entire career working in that industry. Jay worked as an auto mechanic for H.L. Liston in Kansas City, sold auto parts for Heidbreder-Meyer Auto Supply, and was co-owner of Weidinger-Shryock Chevrolet Agency in Vienna, Mo. from 1958-1966. He then joined Schanzmeyer Ford in Jefferson City as a salesman where he continued his employment through dealership changes to Capitol City Ford in 1975 to Mike Kehoe Ford in 1992. Jay retired in 2006, after 40 years of service to Ford at the age of 85. Throughout his career he received many top sales awards and was recognized for his consistent outstanding sales performance. Jay will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by one daughter, Jayne Wills and husband, Kevin, of New Bloomfield; one granddaughter, Ivie Wills Hickman of Meta; and one great- grandson, Peyten J. Hickman of Meta; one sister, Kathleen Fisher of Leawood, Kan.; his longtime friend, Marion Rackers of Holts Summit; four nieces and one nephew. In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Huff. Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2012, at Millersburg Baptist Church in Millersburg with Rev. Ellen Marquardt officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service also at Millersburg Baptist Church. Interment will be held in Millersburg Cemetery.
