Harley C. Vaughan

Harley C. Vaughan, 84, of Tuscumbia, Missouri, passed away Wednesday August 1, 2012, at his residence in Tuscumbia, Missouri. On June 15, 1928, he was born in Tuscumbia, Missouri, the son of the late Robert L. and Aldyth (Bottoms) Vaughan. He was married to Betty M. (Smith) Vaughan who survives in Jefferson City, Missouri and later married Berniece (Tompkins) Vaughan who preceded him in death. Harley attended Tuscumbia High School and served in the United States Navy. He served on the Eldon School Board as President and the Bagnell Special Road District as a Commissioner. He retired in 1990, after working over 40 years for the Missouri Department of Transportation, retiring as an area supervisor. He was a 60 year member of the Mason's and was a member of the Missouri Highway Association. Harley was a life long farmer and enjoyed hunting, fishing, music, dancing and spending time with his friends. Survivors include: his beloved companion, Jan Shelton of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Kathy Vaughan of Edgerton, Kan.; daughter, Judy L. Vaughan of Jefferson City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Amy (Martin) Robins, Kyle Martin and Kaitlin Vaughan; great-grandchild, Tori Robins; brother, Leroy Vaughan of Tuscumbia, Mo.; step-son, David Thiedke of Wentzville, Mo.; step-daughters, Sheryl Martin of Eldon, Mo. and Marybeth O'Connor of the State of Colorado. A daughter, Diane (Martin) Yaworski, preceded him in death. Visitation will be held on Saturday August 4, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 4:40 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, Mo. Funeral Service will be Sunday August 5, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, Mo., with Rev. Gene Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at Tuscumbia Cemetery with Full Military Honors provided by the Eldon VFW Post #2442. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and Hospice Compassus.
