Matilda Wollen

Mrs. Matilda "Peg" (Breiding) Wollen, 95, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, where she resided at Westbrook Terrace Assisted Living in Jefferson City. She was born on September 23, 1917, in Wheeling, W. Va., a daughter of the late Casper and Irene (Vogler) Breiding. She was married on May 11, 1944, in San Diego, Calif., to Winfred "Ed" Wollen Sr., who preceded her in death on December 31, 1979. A resident of Jefferson City since September, 2007, Peg graduated from St Joseph's Academy of Wheeling in 1935 and received a Nursing degree from Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. She worked as a Registered Nurse in West Virginia and later in California until she became a wife and a full time homemaker and mother. Peg was previously a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church of Arroyo Grande, Calif. She was active in the work of the Altar Society and in preparing food baskets for the needy, sang in the choir and was a member of the Third Order of St Francis, a secular Franciscan order. In her leisure time, Peg enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, baking, reading and music. Peg is the mother of Maggie Wollen-Olson and the grandmother of Dr. Alan Lemerande, both of Jefferson City. Other survivors include: daughter, Susan Wollen-Schleis of Port Orchard, Wash., and three sons: Winfred E. Wollen Jr., of Volcano, Calif., William C. Wollen of Colorado Springs, Colo., and John R. Wollen of Bradford, Pa.; one sister, Geraldine Abraham of Sudbury, Mass.; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Peg was preceded in death by her granddaughters, Kristen Ann Cochran in 2002 and Angela Marie Plumlee in 1999. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 3, 2012, at St Patrick's Catholic Church, Arroyo Grande, Calif., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be conducted at Arroyo Grande Cemetery.
