Marcelyn "Kay" Lewis, 62, Jefferson City, made her transition on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, after a brief illness with Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was born in Columbia, on July 17, 1949, and graduated from Hickman High School in 1967. Kay, as she was affectionately called, had a keen sense of humor, was a sharp dresser, and loved to shop, watch cooking shows, and listen to soulful music, especially Barry White and Luther Vandross. Since she was a little girl, she was, and remained, an adept dancer. She devoted her life to public service, working in Jefferson City first, for the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, and for the last 20 years, for the Department of Revenue for the State. She is survived by two children, Ronald Cross Jr. and Ronica Cross; mother, Ida Lewis; siblings, Dr. Jabari Simama [Frederick Lewis] (Nisha), Joan D. Lewis, Jill Lewis, Jarrell Lewis (Pennae), and Charlynn Lewis. She also has a number of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd "Button" Lewis Jr.; and brothers, Jefferson "Bodine" Lewis and James Lewis. A Home-going Celebration of Kay's life will commence at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 23 at the Millard Family Funeral Chapels in Jefferson City. Friends will be received at a visitation on the same day from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Lincoln University Scholarship Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 West Main Street, 636-3838.
