Helena H. Lehmen, age 87, of Rich Fountain, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Westphalia Hills Retirement Center in Westphalia. Helena was born July 19, 1924, in Linn, a daughter to the late Peter and M. Gertrude (Vassen) Brandt. On October 16, 1943, Helena was united in marriage to Delbert J. Lehmen in Rich Fountain. He preceded her in death on February 20, 2000. Helena was a homemaker and a lifelong area resident. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain, Ladies Sodality and the Sewing Circle. She also was a cook for Sacred Heart School and was active in helping with the church picnics and other fund raisers. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, and spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Helena is survived by: three sons, Daniel J. Lehmen of Jefferson City, John D. and his wife Carla Lehmen of Rich Fountain, and Roger and his wife Tracy Lehmen of Rich Fountain; three daughters, Judy and her husband Larry Schepers of Jefferson City, Elaine M. and her husband Floyd Hansett of Mexico, Mo., and Sharon and her husband Dennis Opalka of Overland Park, Kan.; two brothers, Urban and his wife Mary Jo Brandt of Jefferson City, and Charles and his wife Mary Lou Brandt of Jefferson City; nine grandchildren, Brian Schepers, Angela Rigsbee, Jennifer Gardner, Michael Lehmen, Wes Bolton, Brad Bolton, Lindsay Lehmen, Seth Lehmen, and Eric Opalka; eight great- grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Helena was preceded in death by: two daughters, Mary Lehmen and Diane Peck; two brothers, Fred and Herbert Brandt; and four sisters, Luella Brune, Delores Veltrop, Theresa Eiken, and Mildred Mebruer. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Philip Niekamp as the celebrant. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Sacred Heart Church or School.
