Michael Himmelberg

Michael Himmelberg, 54, of Glasgow, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia after being diagnosed with cancer on March 28. Mr. Himmelberg was born October 16, 1957, in Boonville, Mo., to Melvin Henry and Rozina Cropp Himmelberg. Mike was a graduate of Glasgow High School. He married Debbie McMillan August 14, 1976, at St. Mary Catholic Church. In 1991 he received a Bachelor of Business Adminstration from Baker University and in 1994 a Master of Science in Management from the same university. Mike was hired at Missouri Hospital Association on January 29, 1998, as the Director of Group Purchasing. Then he took the position of Director of Human Resources and Support Services March 1, 1999, and was promoted to Vice President in 2000. He received his certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) in December 2003. Mr. Himmelberg was a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Human Resource Association of Central Missouri (HRACMO), Missouri Society for Healthcare Human Resource Administration (MSHHRA), St. Mary Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Lewis Library Board. Survivors include his wife, Debbie of the home; four children, Neil (Amanda) Himmelberg of Glasgow, Niccole (Dan) Pulley of Pilot Grove, Nick Himmelberg of Columbia and Nevan Himmelberg of Rolla; three grandchildren, Shay, Deklan and Trivan Himmelberg; his mother, Rozina Himmelberg of Glasgow; one brother, Jon (Karen) Himmelberg of Ashland, Mo.; two sisters, Diana (Donald) Foster of Boonville and Janet Himmelberg of Glasgow. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Himmelberg. A funeral mass was Friday, April 13, 2012, at St. Mary Church, with Father Richard Frank officiating. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, at the Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow. Burial was in Washington Cemetery with Ronnie Hagedorn, Dan and Tom Himmelberg, Randy, Darrell and Doug McMillan serving as Pallbearers. Memorials are suggested to St. Maryís School or Cancer Research in care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service, 112 Market St. Glasgow, MO 65254.
