Barbara J. Garnett, 68, of Holts Summit, Mo., passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center. She was born May 19, 1943, in Mexico, Mo., a daughter of the late Raymond and Dorothy (Pearson) Edwards. She was a graduate of Mexico High School in Mexico, Mo., and went on to attend Business College in Kansas City, Mo. On October 29, 1994, Barbara was united in marriage in Holts Summit, Mo., to Rodney H. Garnett, who survives at their home. Barbara was an Administrative Assistant in Human Resources at the Missouri Department of Education, where she worked for over 10 years until her retirement in 2009. She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church in Holts Summit, and served on the Central Committee for Callaway County and was a member and past-president of the Callaway Women's Democratic Club. Her greatest love was for her family and friends. Barbara is also survived by two daughters: Shelly Couch (Ted) of Carlisle, Ky.; Cheryl Ford of Paducah, Ky.; five grandchildren: Amanda Couch, Megan Couch, Courtney Ford, Samantha Ford and Jacob Ford; three step-daughters: Christy Garnett of Independence, Mo., Leanne Peace (Jack) of Columbia, Mo., and Melody Parry (Fred) of Columbia, Mo.; one step-son: Scott Garnett (Connie Holland) of Holts Summit, Mo.; six step-grandchildren: Kristin Garnett, Elizabeth Garnett, Max Parry, Nick Parry, Jordan Peace and Mariah Peace; one brother: Billy Edwards (Jenny) of Mexico, Mo.; a sister-in-law: Nancy Edwards of Tennessee; one aunt: Ruth Braden of Holts Summit, Mo.; one uncle: Charles Pearson of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and many other loving family members and friends. She was also preceded in death by a son: Michael Vance; and a brother: Larry Edwards. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 8, 2012, at the Slater-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Holts Summit, Mo. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 9, 2012, at Union Hill Baptist Church in Holts Summit, Mo., with Pastor E. Frank Whitney and Pastor G. Dale Norfolk officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park in Mexico, Mo.
