Edward Hert

Edward L. Hert, 70, of California, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at his residence. He was born on July 17, 1941, in Sedalia, Mo., the son of Robert and Virginia (Baldwin) Hert, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married on Dec. 31, 1961, at the California United Church of Christ, to Mary Louise Haldiman, who survives of the home. He was a 1959 graduate of California High School, and went on to attend CMSU. He was a member of California United Church of Christ, where he served on the church's consistory board. He worked as a director and president for Moniteau National Bank, where he was a fifth generation banker. He stayed on after it became Commerce Bank, where he completed his 41 years of service. He was a former fire chief for the City of California, and a member of the California Optimist Club, Jaycees, and California Progress, Inc. He enjoyed golfing and was a past president of the California Country Club. He also was co-owner of Hert-Reichel Insurance Company. He is survived by three daughters; Julie Medlin, and husband Earl, of California; Mary Beth Deeken, and husband Jim, of California; and Susan Conrad, and husband John, of Jefferson City; nine grandchildren; Jess and Ginnie Medlin; Caitlin Spenser, Sydney and Ross Deeken; and Bailey, Blake and Ben Conrad; and one sister, Eleanor Scherff, and husband Bob, of Springfield, Mo. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the California United Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Evangelical Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Collette Jones, with eulogist Morris Burger. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., also at the church.
