Pauline Sherman

Mrs. Pauline Sherman, age 98 years, of Hanahan, S.C., formerly of Jefferson City, Mo., went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 22, 2011. She was born in Ripley County, outside of Oxly, Mo., on September 30, 1912 to James T. and Minnie B. Ormsby where she grew up helping her father on the family farm. She was one of nine children in the Ormsby family, having six brothers and two sisters. After two years of courtship, mostly by letter that she had to retrieve by riding the family mule 2 miles to the post office, she was married on September 1, 1932, to Rev. Sam R. Sherman, a young Southern Baptist minister. They raised a family of five children, three girls and two boys. Sam died on May 16, 1968, in Chamois, Mo., where he was pastor of Chamois Baptist Church. After retirement, she moved to Jefferson City, Mo., where she continued to work part-time in a day care facility taking care of infants. She also worked for many years as a regular baby-sitter for Dr. John and Chris Krautmann's five children. She was more like another Grandmother than a babysitter and was known to their family as "Shermer." While living in Jefferson City, she was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school in the children's department for many years. In July 2007 at the age of 95, she moved to Hanahan, S.C., to live with her son and daughter-in-law, John and Sondra Sherman, where she became an active member of Highland Park Baptist Church becoming a mom and grandmother to many.
