Joseph Holterman Jr. (Veteran)

Joseph Frank Holterman Jr., age 79, of Freeburg, departed this life Monday, September 26, 2011, in the St. Mary's Health Center, Jefferson City. Mr. Holterman had been in failing health for some time. He was born August 21, 1932, near Freeburg, a son of Joseph Frank and Louise (Zeilman) Holterman. Mr. Holterman was united in marriage on November 24, 1956, at Freeburg, to the former Miss Donna Marie Lehmen, and to this union three sons were born. Mr. Holterman was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, a 60-year member of the Western Catholic Union, and a member of the Msgr. Gerald Kaiser Knights of Columbus Council No. 9700, Freeburg. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Paul Hasenbeck Memorial American Legion Post No. 317, Freeburg, and the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Holterman worked for several years at Quaker Window Products Company, Freeburg, retiring in 1993 and was a lifelong cattle and hog farmer in Osage County as well as doing custom combining of fescue seed, and was a former member of the National Farmers Organization. He especially enjoyed squirrel hunting, and cleaning and getting fish ready to fry. Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Holterman include: His wife, Donna Holterman of the home near Freeburg; three sons, Alex and Mary Holterman, Kevin and Christie Holterman, and Glen Holterman and friend Danielle Dudenhoeffer, all of Freeburg; seven grandchildren, Derin and Sarah Holterman, Ethan Holterman and friend Whitney Haslag, Jenna Holterman, Corey Nevins, Gregory Holterman, Brandon Holterman, and Maria Holterman, all of Freeburg; and one great-granddaughter, Megan Nevins, Freeburg; three sisters, Viola Luebbert, Loose Creek, Delrose and Joe Budnik, Morrison, and Eileen Leuthen, Argyle; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father on May 10, 1987; his mother in 1937 when he was five years old; his step-mother, Catherine Maria "Katie" Holterman on October 24, 2001; and one brother, Cletus Fred Holterman on December 17, 2004. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. Holterman at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 30, 2011, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, with Rev. Phil Niekamp officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Thursday, September 29, 2011 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary Service and an American Legion Memorial Service, all in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, as well as visitation from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Friday, September 30, 2011, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Masses or memorial contributions to the Holy Family Catholic School, Freeburg, are preferred by the family with envelopes available at the Holy Family Church or the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
