Mrs. Oma P. Vaughan, age 93 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, September 12, 2011, at the Jefferson City Manor Care Center. She was born on May 8, 1918, in Meta, Mo., the daughter of Jessie F. and Iva C. Hawk Pendleton. She was married on March 2, 1935, in Waynesville, Mo., to Willard Vaughan, who preceded her in death on February 26, 1990. Oma was employed with Tweedie Footwear Factory for many years and later as Administrator of Capital Avenue Nursing Home. She was a member of First Christian Church in Jefferson City and in later years attended Campground Christian in Van Cleve, Mo. and Humphreys Creek Church. Oma loved her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and would start whipping up a meal and baking pies whenever she saw someone coming down the sidewalk. She was a strong woman who endured many hardships, including the loss of two sons at early ages. She stayed strong for her family through all the trials of life. She was beautiful till the end and always had her hair and makeup tiptop. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Survivors include: two daughters, Carolyn L. Goff and her husband James of Jefferson City, Mo. and Patty A. Sandbothe of Jefferson City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Mitch Goff, Tammy Giesing and her husband Les, Tracy Vaughan, Bridgette Vinyard, Steven Vaughan and his wife Nan, Ricky Vaughan and his wife Cynthia, and Casey Walker; 11 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Willard Earl Vaughan and Donnie Ray Vaughan; two sisters, Lillie Tennyson and Opal Hagans; and one brother, Dossie Pendleton. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 15, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 15, 2011, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Lyle Witcher officiating. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
