Alvin E. Gliser, age 56, of New Bloomfield, Mo., formerly of Montgomery City, Mo., passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Alvin was born in Montgomery City, Mo., on October 9, 1954, the son of Donald E. Gliser and Dorothy M. Bolton Gliser. He was united in Holy Matrimony at the Christian Church of Montgomery City, Mo., on May 22, 1976, to Mary Christine Ponder, who survives of the home. He attended Montgomery City schools and graduated in 1973, at Montgomery County R-II High School. He worked construction with his father until 1979, when he started working on the construction of the Callaway Power Plant. In 1984, he started working for Leo Fennewald Construction, where he worked until his disability in 2009. He loved riding motorcycles with his friends and family, going to races and working on wood projects. Most of all, he loved being with his family and friends. Alvin is also survived by his daughter, Tina Marie Martin and her husband, Andrew Martin; five grandchildren: Colten, Clayten, twins, Alexis and Aleyah, and Justus. Other suvivors include two sisters and two brothers, Sandy Gibson and her husband, Gerald, of Buell, Mo.; Lois Runkle and her husband, Clyde, of Spirit Lake, Idaho; Michael Gliser and his wife, Loraine of Holts Summit, Mo.; and Larry Gliser and his wife, Denise of New Bloomfield, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews. Also his mother, Dorothy Bolton Gliser Poston and her husband, Marvin of Mexico, Mo.; step-sister, GeJuan Cochran and her husband, Richard, of Mexico, Mo.; his step-mother, Beverly Jones Gliser of New Florence, Mo.; and three step-sisters: Debbie, Denise and Darlene. Alvin was preceded in death by his brother, Gary, in 1945, and his father, Donald E. Gliser in 2008. Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at the Montgomery City Christian Church, 200 South Sturgeon Street, Montgomery City, MO. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will be in the Montgomery City Cemetery in Montgomery City, Mo. Condolences to: schlankerfuneralhome.com
