Leland William Frank, 71, of Holts Summit, passed away Friday, September 2, 2011, at Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 9, 1940, in Jefferson City, the son of the late August C. and Virgie (Reiter) Frank. Leland was a graduate of New Bloomfield High School. He served in the United States Navy. He was employed as a heavy equipment and crane operator and was a member of the Crane Operators Union. Leland was a member of the Catholic faith. Leland was a well known race car driver at Capital Speedway racing Modifieds and Late Models. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and sprint cars to late model and modified racing. He is survived by three sons: Charles "Chuck" (Tracy) Frank of Holts Summit, Dale (Anita) Frank of Centertown, and Shawn Frank of Holts Summit; two grandchildren: Tanner and Jordan Frank; one sister: Betty Kay (Jim) Verslues of Taos; two brothers: Lyman (Terre) Frank of New Bloomfield and Lenny (Kathy) Frank of Holts Summit. He was preceded in death by one sister: Deloris Prenger. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at the Slater-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Holts Summit. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2011, at the Slater-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Holts Summit, with Msgr. Gregory L. Higley officiating. Interment will follow in St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery in Holts Summit. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Compassus.
