John "David" Ashley, 68, of High Point, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, after being diagnosed with Parkinson's seven years ago. He was born on March 11, 1943, in California, the son of John Thomas "JT" and Marjorie (Williams) Ashley, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married on March 27, 1967, in Ava, to Nancy Jobe, who survives of the home. He was a 1961 graduate of Tipton High School and a member of the High Point Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for 40 years and was a deacon for 34 years. He served in the United States Army from August 1967 - April 1969, serving in Vietnam from March 1968 - April 1969. He was a member of the California Masonic Lodge 183 AF & AM and Gideons International. He was a farmer in Moniteau and Cooper counties. He is survived by one son, Matthew Ashley and wife Kristen, and two grandchildren, Ben and Cora Ashley, all of Nixa; six brothers, Larry Ashley of Clarksburg, Stephen Ashley and wife Beverly of Clarksburg, Mike Ashley and wife Belinda of California, Dale Ashley of Jamestown, Bobby Ashley and wife Kim of High Point, and Kenny Ashley and wife LeeAnn of California; four sisters, Carol Williams and husband Art of California, Linda Ashley of Independence, Anita Groepper and husband Monty of California, and Rebecca Moore and husband Tom of Springfield; one aunt, Martha Farbee of Independence; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at High Point Baptist Church. Burial with full military honors will be in Hickman Cemetery in Clarksburg. Officiating will be Bro. Ray McDonald, assisted by Bro. Glen Golden. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Gideons International, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak, California, MO 65018. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.
