Frederick Francis Rost Jr., 69, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, October 17, 2011, at his home. He was born March 29, 1942, in Jefferson City, a son of the late Frederick Francis and Anna Marie (Flaspohler) Rost. He attended Immaculate Conception and St. Peter grade schools in Jefferson City. Fred was a 1960 graduate of Helias High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's degree from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, in 1975. Fred worked for Mercantile Trust Company from 1964 - 1970, Central Bank from 1970 - 1975, and as an independent insurance and investment advisor from 1975 until his retirement in 2005. He was Past President of the United Sportsman Club of Jefferson City, Past President of the Local Chartered Life Underwriters, and was a member of the National Rifle Association. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting sports, and other outdoor activities. He also enjoyed making knives and long bows. Fred was the best joke teller in central Missouri, but most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his loving companion: Bonnie L. Krieger of the home; one son: Jacob Rost (wife Christa) of Denver, Colo.; two daughters: Tina Shoemaker (husband Doug) of Jefferson City and Connie Bruns (husband Terry) of Jefferson City; eight grandchildren: Levi, Alex and Henry Rost of Denver, Colo, Mallorie and Jack Hoey, and Elise Shoemaker of Jefferson City; Regan and Molly Bruns of Jefferson City; two brothers: Tom Rost (wife Jackie) of Jefferson City amd Paul Rost (wife Kathi) of Niwot, Colo.; three sisters: Barbara Vossen (husband Jim) of Jefferson City, Carol Zeman of Osage Beach, and Margie Rost of Springdale, Ark. He is also survived by Bonnie's children: Jeff Krieger (wife Cindy) of Jefferson City and Leslie Verslues (husband Sam) of Jefferson City; Bonnie's grandchildren: Tyler, Josh and Lainey Krieger of Jefferson City, Abbey and Grace Verslues of Jefferson City; and Bonnie's brother: Dan Brune (wife Cheri) who he considered a brother, along with their children: Michelle, Travis and Christy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Helias High School, St. Joseph School, Immaculate Conception School or St. Peter School.
