Katherine Lydia Ott Chappell, age 43, of Syracuse, went to her heavenly home on Monday, October 10, 2011, following a motorcycle accident near Versailles. She was born April 18, 1968, in Jefferson City, the only daughter of David O. and Elaine Williams Ott, who survive in Russellville. On June 26, 1997, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Farmington, she married Richard Chappell Jr., who is currently stationed in Afghanistan. Kathy was a 1986 graduate of Cole County R-I High School in Russellville and a graduate of Merrill University in Jefferson City. At the time of her death, she was employed at the Tipton Correctional Facility as a records officer, and was recently promoted to manager. She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in California. Kathy and Rick had resided in Farmington for several years, before moving to Syracuse. She was always on the go, whether it was attending festivals where she sold "Miche" bags for fun or exploring new places. Kathy always had a loving smile on her face and was loved by many. She had a positive outlook on life and shared that outlook with those around her. Most of all, she loved being a mom, wife, grandma and aunt. She will be deeply missed but we know she is with the Lord. In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by four children, Patrick Brauner and wife Misty of Farmington; Dustin Cox of Syracuse; Ashley Cox of Warrensburg and Megan Chappell of the home; one stepson, Joshua Chappell of Jefferson City; two granddaughters, Mylee and Carly Brauner; two brothers, David E. Ott and wife Diane and Andrew Ott and wife Kelsey, all of Russellville; her maternal step-grandfather, Edgar Kautsch and wife Lorene of Lohman; two nieces, Debra Lake and husband Jack and Crystal Ashley and husband John; two great-nephews, Jack and William Lake and one great-niece, Faith Ashley, also aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Kathy was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ernie and Lydia Ott and her maternal grandparents, Margaret Kautsch and Bryan Williams. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in California with Rev. Dr. Peter Kurowski officiating. Interment will be in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery-Stringtown in Lohman. The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, October 14, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in California. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Kathy Chappell memorial fund, which will be designated upon her husband's return from Afghanistan. Arrangements are under the direction of the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. www.scrivner-morrow.com
