Alvin Jay Twyman, 64, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Columbia, after a lengthy illness. He was born July 4, 1947, in Jefferson City, a son of the late Herbert W. Twyman and Geneave L. White. Alvin was a graduate of Jefferson City High School. He joined the United States Army in 1966 and served in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1972. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Alvin was joined in marriage on January 29, 1983, to Opal J. Coffman, who survives at the home. He is also survived by three sisters: (Frances) Suzy Woods, state of Georgia, Amy Dunnell, state of Kansas, and Joyce Duncan, Eugene; two brothers: Tommy Twyman, Houston, Texas, and Herbert Leon Twyman, Provo, Utah; three sons: Dennis Twyman, Germany, Brandon Twyman and Nathan Twyman, both of Jefferson City; two daughters: Sara Twyman and Brenda Haslag, both of Jefferson City; three grandsons: Marshall Berhorst, Elijah Stevens, and Landon Goben; five granddaughters. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jimmy Twyman. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 5, at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in St. Roberts. Interment followed at 2 p.m. at the Fort Leonard Wood Veterans Cemetery with Bishops Karl Hubbard and Herman Blau officiating.
