Hazel Lee Flippin

Hazel Lee Flippin, 83, of California, Mo., passed away on Monday, October 3, 2011, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born on October 9, 1927, in Barnett, Mo., the daughter of Aubrey and M e l l i e (Rohrbach) Gordon, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married on September 25, 1948, in California, Mo., to Marion F. Flippin, who preceded her in death on November 11, 2001. She was a graduate of Latham High School and Mariwood School of Cosmetology in Jefferson City. She worked as a beauty operator for 34 years, owning and operating Hazel's Beauty Shop for 20 years. She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, where she worked on the funeral committee for many years; she also was on the baptistery committee and was a Sunday School secretary for many years. She is survived by two sons, Garold "Gary" Flippin and wife Peggy of Mt. Vernon, Mo., and Steven L. Flippin of California, Mo.; two grandchildren, Jennifer Killough and husband Gerald of New Braunfels, Texas, and Bradlee Flippin of Seguin, Texas; three greatgrandchildren, Sydnee and Stephanee Killough and Rylee Flippin; one sister, Edna Mae Gray of California, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 7, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Main Street Baptist Church in California, Mo. Burial will be in California City Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Eddie Schoeneberg and Rev. Ken Mathes. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to either Main Street Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak, California, MO 65018.
