Herbert A. McCondichie, 80, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2011, at the Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born August 7, 1931, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the eldest son of five children, of Arthur J. and Eldoris (Ector) McCondichie. He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1949, where he was very involved in the band program. He attended college in Austin, Texas and in 1952 joined the United States Air Force and played trombone in the military band during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in 1961. Herbert later married his childhood sweetheart Carolyn (Dotson) McCondichie after a prior marriage, in which he fathered his son, Howard D. McCondichie. He and Carolyn also raised her two children, Donna (McCondichie) Cayer and Hugh M. McCondichie, who is deceased. Herb was a very caring dad who loved his children very much, and was involved in the PTA, his children's activities and attended First Baptist Church of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He later joined Paradise Baptist Church and after moving to Jefferson City became a member of the Second Baptist Church. Herb retired as a Security Officer at the Fourth National Bank of Tulsa in 1989 and began work as the Director of the Nutrition Program at the Tulsa Senior Center. Herbert is survived by his wife of 49 and a half years, Carolyn D. McCondichie of the home; his son, Howard McCondichie and wife Nadene of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one daughter, Donna Cayer of Jefferson City, one brother, Richard McCondichie and wife Carolyn of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Sharon Yvonne of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sisters, Doris Jean Fields and husband Otho of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Regina McCondichie of Tulsa, Oklahoma.; two grandsons, Marques Sutton and DeMarco Howard, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and adopted children that he loved very much. He was preceded in death by one son, Hugh Marvin McCondichie; and one brother, Elbor McCondichie. A Masonic Service conducted by the Capitol City Masonic Lodge No. 9 will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at Second Baptist Church with a memorial service conducted by the Rev. Cornell Sudduth Sr. following at 1:30 p.m. Military honors will conclude the memorial service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Second Baptist Church or sent to the home.
