Hazel Lee (Hodler) Fletcher, 87, of California, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2011, at Moniteau Care Center in California. She was born on January 27, 1924, the daughter of Charles and Letha (Crawford) Hodler, both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Centertown High School in 1941. She was married on April 22, 1943 in Centertown, to Robert Elton Fletcher, who preceded her in death. She was a member of California United Methodist Church and a member of VFW Post 4345 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a hard-working Moniteau County farm girl before moving from McGirk to the city of California in 1948. She was a homemaker and part-time cook at Uptown Cafe, Nic-Nac Cafe, and California Cafe. She was employed as a part-time cook at California School from 1959- 1963 before coming full-time in 1964. Hazel retired from the California R-1 School District in April 1989 after 25 years service as full-time Food Service Director. Survivors include: one son, Larry Fletcher and wife Sue of Lake Ozark,; one daughter, Patty Papen and husband David of High Point; five grandchildren, Laura Mullins and husband Bill of Camdenton, Julie Berendzen and husband Brad of California, Becky Hart and husband Scott of Eugene, Tracy Upschulte and husband Kevin of Jefferson City, and Tricia Wang of Jefferson City; 11 great- grandchildren, Jenna and Hunter Berendzen, Drew and Ryan Hart, Katlyn and Jakob Mullins, Marlayna, Mackenzie and Maitlyn Harwood, Elisabeth Wang, Kael and Carson Upschulte; and one niece, Tammy (Hodler) Daly of Wells, Maine. She was preceded in death by one brother, Leroy Hodler. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services. Interment will be at the California City Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Linda Pagel. Visitation will be Sunday, October 2, 2011, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the California United Methodist Church or the VFW Post 4345 Ladies Auxiliary, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak St. California, MO 65018. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.
