Nona Caine, age 80, of Versailles, passed away Friday, November 25, 2011, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born June 9, 1931, in Versailles, a daughter of the late Edgar and Elsie McCollister Carpenter. She married William A. Caine on August 6, 1950, at the First Baptist Church in Versailles. Nona and Bill made their home at Indiana's Camp Atterbury, where he was serving in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, they returned to Versailles to make their home. They enjoyed a marriage centered on family and distinguished by devotion to one another, partnership and community service. They created many wonderful memories for themselves, their children and their grandchildren. Nona was a homemaker, who stayed busy raising her children and being involved in their activities. After her children were grown, she worked for 10 years at Wini's Fashions in Versailles. In May of 2000, Nona and Bill were joint recipients of the Versailles Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award and received recognition in the Missouri House of Representatives for their accomplishments. Nona contributed to the community as a charter member of the Junior Sorosis, the WIN Investment Club, as a member of the Versailles Women's Civic Club and the Morgan County Historical Society. She was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was President and member of the Young Mother's Circle. Nona was also active in several organizations that benefited the youth, including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Parent-Teacher Association and numerous community fund drives. She served several years on the Long Range Planning Committee of the Rolling Hills Country Club and served as President and Board Member and also as President and Golf Chair of the Ladies' Rolling Hills Organization and as Treasurer of the Fifty Plus Women's Golf Association of Central Missouri. On a personal level, Nona had a curious intellect, an adventuresome spirit and a quick laugh. She enjoyed traveling, golf, genealogy, reading and crossword puzzles. She loved spending time with friends and family. She was a trusted friend and confidante and stayed up many late nights imparting comfort and wisdom to her children. Nona is survived by her beloved husband Bill and their five children, Mike (Karle) Caine of Eldon, Cindy (Pat) Driver of Gladstone, Lynda (Dennis) Files of Bloomington, Illinois, Bob (Gloria) Caine of Richland, Washington, and Patrick (Mindy) Caine of Springfield; three sisters, Marcie Baker of Farmington, Arkansas, Audrey Fields of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and Doris Jessee of Phoenix, Arizona; and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 30, at the Versailles United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Atkinson officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 29, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles.
