Roman Casper Brandt, 83, of Taos, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born on August 20, 1928, in Rich Fountain, a son of the late Martin Hubert and Bernadine Elizabeth Bock Brandt. He was united in marriage at the St. Francis Xavier Church in Taos on May 25, 1958, to Lorene H. Toebben, who survives at the home. Roman served in the United States Army during the Korean War from September 1951 to June 1953. He was employed as a book binder for 47 years at Von Hoffmann Press from 1958 until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the Taos Knights of Columbus and the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, especially tending to his lawn, fishing, and spending time with his family. He is also survived by his two daughters: Joyce Scipioni (Randy) of Warrenton and Janice Roark (David) of Jefferson City; two brothers: Norbert Brandt and Martin "Marty" Brandt (Mary), both of Linn; two sisters: Hildegard Bax of Koeltztown and Sister Regina Brandt of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren: Shawn (Stephanie) and Aaron Scipioni, and Matthew, Lauren, Bradley, Brian and Katie Roark; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sister-in-law: Mary Ellen Brandt; and brother-in-law: Ray Bax. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where a rosary will be held at 3:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2011, with the Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m., at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Wayne Boyer officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
