Donald William Heinen, 85, of California, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2011, at California Care Center. He was born on October 10, 1926, in California, the son of Henry and Genevieve (Chambers) Heinen, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married on February 9, 1957, in California, to Helen Dee Sappington, who survives of the home. Donald was a graduate of Centertown High School. He served in the United States Army in the Korean War from October 1950 through June 1952 and was a Purple Heart recipient. He served as deputy sheriff of Moniteau County and co-owner of Heinen's Blacksmith Shop. He retired in 1992 after serving 30 years as Moniteau County Circuit Clerk and Recorder of Deeds and contract serviceman for Sears. Donald was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #2693, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4345, Disabled American Veterans, California Progress, Inc., and Friends of the Library. Survivors include three daughters, Gloria Heinen of Pittsfield, Ill., Tammy (Bill) Brown of Lee's Summit, and Donna Heinen of Columbia; two grandchildren, Zachary (Megan) Brown and Brittany Brown; and one great-granddaughter, Sadie Brown of Lee's Summit. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church in California. Burial with full military honors will be in Annunciation Catholic Cemetery. Officiating will be Fr. Fred Elskamp. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 7, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., with Rosary following at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California. Memorials are suggested to either the Alzheimer's Association or Annunciation Catholic Church, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak, California, MO 65018. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.
