Derrick J. "D.J." Garrison, age 29 years, of Sedalia, Mo., a former Jefferson City resident, died Friday, November 4, 2011, in Sedalia, Mo. D.J. was born February 26, 1982, in Denver, Colo., the son of Tony D. and Lynn M. Jolicoeur Garrison. D.J. grew up a military brat residing in various places throughout several states and Germany. The family later settled in central Missouri where he attended Jefferson City High School. He was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and loved to write and perform music where he was known as "Dayton Kain." D.J. also loved acting and was an avid sports fan supporting the St. Louis Cardinals and the Seattle Seahawks. The most important thing in his life were his children. Survivors include: one son, Rylee Aaron Garrison of Sedalia, Mo.; one daughter, Serenity Elizabeth Garrison of Bryant, Ark.; his parents, Tony and Lynn Garrison of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister, Stacey Lynn Shahangian and her husband Jason of Jefferson City, Mo.; his girlfriend, Angie Jones; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Elizabeth Jolicoeur; his paternal grandparents, Glen and Freda Wilkins and Nadine Garrison. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2011. A Celebration of Derrick's Life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Freeman Chapel. Graveside services and interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Derrick Garrison Memorial Fund.
