Velma J. King, 83, of California, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born on March 15, 1928 in Solo, the daughter of Charles Ernest and Clara (Bennett) Harmon, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married on September 6, 1946, in Houston, to Cecil King, who preceded her in death on October 23, 2000. She was a member of California First Assembly of God Church. She was a homemaker and loved being with her family. She is survived by two sons, Darrel King and wife Debbie of California, and Jerry King and wife Debby of Eldon; one daughter, Connie Katschman and husband Mike of California; two sisters, Betty Groom of California and Violet Rust of Ash Grove; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra King; and two brothers, Voyle Harmon and Vernon Harmon. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California. Burial will be in California City Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Jack Moore, assisted by Chaplain Jeremy Caudel and Rev. Thomas Medlin. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
