Robert King Coffland, 90, of Jefferson City, died Sunday, May 22, 2011, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born on November 2, 1920, in Madison, Wis., the son of the late Orion Finley and Kathryn Ann King Coffland. He was a graduate of East High School in Kansas City, Mo. He was united in marriage on July 14, 1940, in Kansas City, Mo., to Marjorie Ann Chapman who preceded him in death on January 2, 1999. Mr. Coffland was employed by the S.S. Kresge Company and Mattingly Bros. Stores during his 45 years of management in the Five and Dime Store business. He later joined Scholastic Inc. in Jefferson City, where he was the manager of order processing for an additional 15 years. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph and a member of the Knights of Columbus. The combined 60 years in the retail industry was a passion in Mr. Coffland's life. His other great joy came from his love of music, dancing with his wife, Marjorie, to the Big Band Orchestras that passed through Kansas City in the late 1930's and the early 1940's. Survivors include: two daughters, Sheryl Ann (John) Poepsel, Jefferson City and Denise Kathleen Kaiser, Overland Park, Kan.; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Ann Donlan. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Benjamin Nwosu officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4:30-7 p.m. Tuesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 2305 W.
