Denver Ray Gross

Denver Ray Gross, 83, of Tipton, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia. He was born March 26, 1928, in Clarksburg, to George Farris and Minnie Ona Potts Gross. He was married to Willetta Terry on February 22, 1964. She preceded him in death on December 26, 1984. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1971 and retired as a Sgt. 1st Class. He worked at Autrey Brothers Printing in Denver, Colo. until 1981. He then worked for the Moniteau County Sheriff's Department as a dispatcher, retiring in 2007. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 304 in Tipton. He loved fishing, watching westerns, country music, and being with his family. He is survived by one son, Michael (Tammie) Gross of Tipton; one daughter, Penny (Jim) Leonard of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren, Emily and Spencer Gross, Curtis Leonard, Shelly Honeycutt, and Jennifer Oliver; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mack (Ronda) Gross and David (Betty) Gross, of Tipton; four sisters, Verni Dine Brownfield of Centertown, Minnie Marie Phenix of Warrensburg, Georgia Fern (Donald) Jones of California, and Joan Mae Jones of Stover. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, May 16, 2011, at the Meisenheimer Funeral Home, Tipton, with burial at the Tipton Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, May 15 from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are to be made to American Legion Post 304.
