James F. Powers, 88, of Columbia, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 11. Jim was born September 13, 1922, in Greenway, Arkansas to the late Frank and Nora Mae Powers. He was united in marriage with Mary W. Pace in St. Louis on February 1, 1948, and she survives. He served in the US Army during WWII in Europe. Jim was a long time faithful member of Grace Bible Church, active in Prison Fellowship Ministry, a member of the Gideons and loved southern gospel music. Jim was a career insurance agent. He will be fondly remembered as "quite a character", delivering the Tribune and winning carrier of the month at age 70, and serving joyously as a Wal-Mart Greeter for many years. He was a die-hard Cardinals fan, an avid fisherman, and a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by their children, Denise Morris, husband Carl, Joy Harrod, husband Ron, Terry Powers, wife Julia, and Todd Powers, wife Tori; another son, Don Powers; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Powers; daughter-in-law, Brenda Bernskoetter Powers; and two sisters. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 13, and services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at Grace Bible Church. Burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
