Lena Welschmeyer Bret

Lena Rose Welschmeyer Bret, 89, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Summit Villa in Holts Summit. She was born on September 29, 1921, in Freeburg, Mo., the daughter of the late John and Johann Holterman Hoffman. She was united in marriage on November 16, 1940, in Freeburg to Sylvester Norbert Welschmeyer who preceded her in death on August 25, 1953. On June 15, 1974, she married Elmo E. Bret in Jefferson City who preceded her in death on August 5, 1995. Lena worked at St. Joseph's Home for 49 years where she served as Director of Activities and assisted with housekeeping, laundry, and dietary aid. She retired July 15, 2005, at the age of 83. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Lena was the recipient of the 2004 Red Cross Heart of the Hero Medical Award and received the 1998 Older Worker of the Year Award presented by Missouri Governor Mel Carnahan. Survivors include: three children, Betty Lou Welschmeyer, Jefferson City; Ron Lee Welschmeyer, Jefferson City; and Lynn Ray Welschmeyer, Jefferson City; two step-children, Lois (Maurice) Mertens, Bonnots Mill; and David (Rita) Bret, Florissant, Mo.; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Loy Dickerson; five brothers; and six sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2011, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Francis W. Doyle officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30-7 p.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Carmelite Monastery, 2201 W.
