Josephine Anna McElwaine Leach, of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011, at St. Joseph's Bluffs. She was born November 4, 1940, in Taos, the daughter of the late Ignatius Bernard and Mildred Vanloo Schnieders. She was united in marriage on July 20, 1986, in Goss, Missouri to Lawrence Leach, who survives at the home. Josephine attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic School. She was employed with Chesebrough Ponds / Unilever from April 1971 to January 1999. She enjoyed garage sales, cleaning house, spending time with her family and taking grandchildren to the Runge Nature Center then to eat Lee's Fried Chicken. In addition to her husband Lawrence, Josephine is survived by her three children: Sam McElwaine (Vicki) of Jefferson City, Dianne Sinden (Darryl) of New Bloomfield and Keith McElwaine (Julie) of Jefferson City; three step-children: Stephen Leach (Donna) of Paris, Donna Perrigo of Shelbina and Marilyn MigNault (Albert) of Mexico; one brother: Robert Schnieders (Janet) of New Bloomfield; 15 grandchildren: Anthony Perrigo, Brittney McElwaine, Eric Perrigo, Ashley Freeman, Jaime Sinden, Jeremy Sinden, Brandon Leach, Amber Freeman, Dari Perrigo, Bryant Leach, Bethany Leach, Emily McElwaine, Austin McElwaine, Grant "Tootsie" McElwaine and Lucy McElwaine. She was preceded in death by one son: Brian "Tootsie" McElwaine; three brothers: Paul Schnieders, James Schnieders and Joe Schnieders and one sister: Barbara Dudenhoeffer. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2011, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home with a prayer service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Joseph's Bluffs or the American Cancer Society.
