Theodore "Ted" Spalding

Theodore "Ted" Spalding, age 64, of Tyler, Texas, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Hospice of East Texas. Ted was born in Henley, on February 5, 1947, as the eldest son of Dennie and Bertie Spalding. He married Rita Swain on January 18, 1969, at Union Hill Baptist Church in Holts Summit. Ted graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1965. He earned his Masters Degree in Petroleum Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rolla. After receiving the top award in Rangers School, Ted served as First Lieutenant in the United States Army while stationed in Germany in the early 1970's. Ted worked in 32 countries while employed by various oil companies. He loved hot rods, horses, and traveling around the world. His sense of humor and contagious smile attracted a lifetime of friends. Survivors include his wife, Rita Spalding of the home; daughter, Heather Windham of Columbia; grandson, Jack of Columbia; mother, Bertie Spalding of Holts Summit; two brothers, Ronald Spalding of St. Louis and Shane Spalding of Holts Summit; and many more family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennie Spalding. His body was donated to Science Care. A celebration of life will be held June 25, at 10 a.m., at Hickory Hill Cemetery, 12729 United Road, Eugene, Mo.
