Robert Yates (Veteran)

Robert L. "Bob" Yates, age 71, of Laurie, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011, at his home. He was born September 28, 1939, in Osage City, the son of the late Roy Nicholas and Grace F. Coon Yates. On November 12, 1960, in Jefferson City, he was united in marriage to Vernie M. Clark, who survives of the home. Bob was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of the Kent Memorial Lutheran Church in Sunrise Beach and the Osage Community Elks Lodge #2705 in Laurie. Bob enjoyed playing golf, boating, barbequing, and good times with family and friends. In addition to his wife, Vernie, he is survived by his sons, Phil Alan Yates and wife Jean Kolarik Yates and Gregory Scott Yates and wife Shelley Dawson Yates, both of Shawnee, Kan.; his daughter, Lora Lynn Yates Adriano and husband Brian of Olathe, Kan.; five grandchildren, Joseph Yates, Madisen Yates, Anthony Yates, Adam Adriano, and Nicole Adriano; his brother, Bobby Lee Yates and wife Doris of Gravois Mills; his sisters, Pauline Turner of Gravois Mills, and Geri Schanuth and husband Curtis of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Howard Yates and Roy Nicholas Yates, Jr.; and his sisters, Margie Yates Bruns and Verna Mae Byrd. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 13, at the Kent Memorial Lutheran Church in Sunrise Beach with Pastor Dave Beese officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Graveside services and interment with full military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City.
