Carl Richard Prenger

Carl Richard Prenger, 91, of Taos, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011, at Heisinger Bluffs surrounded by his family, after a hard fought battle. He was born on December 13, 1919, in Taos, the son of the late Bernard and Philomena Braun Prenger. He was united in marriage on June 20, 1942, in Taos, to Cyrilla Marie Kramer, who resides at the home. Carl worked for Dulle Milling Company, Vine Antwalter Construction Company, Adrian and Wright Brick Masons, Knipp Motors, and Von Hoffmann Press, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and was a member and contributor of the League of the Sacred Heart. Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening after retirement, and listening to old time country and western music. Carl's family will remember his ability to tell stories and captivate their attention during story time. Carl was an avid animal lover and known by his family as "Noah" for caring for so many animals. Other survivors include: 10 children, Donald (Carol) Prenger, Taos, Virgil (Patricia) Prenger, Taos, Marilyn Moeller, Jefferson City, Gary (Milanie) Prenger, Jefferson City, Dale (Linda) Prenger, Taos, Betty Pohl (Donald Smallwood), Taos, Kathy (Leo) Schulte, St. Thomas, Roy (Diane) Prenger, Taos, Earl (Donna) Prenger, Taos, and Barbara (Marvin) Wieberg, Koeltztown; one brother, Louis (Geraldine) Prenger, Taos; 30 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Prenger and Ted Prenger; and seven sisters, Bernadine Eiken, Agnes Eiken, Josephine Wolken, Rosie Wolken, Gesina Stegeman, Bertha Thessen, and Marie Prenger. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m., Monday, August 1, 2011, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Taos, with the Rev. Wayne M. Boyer and the Rev. John J. Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be 11-1 p.m. Monday at the church.
