Arvel L. Brouk, age 90 years, of Jefferson City, formerly of Ferguson, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011. Arvel was born on November 25, 1920, in House Springs, the son of Louis and Edith Lang Brouk. He honorable served his country during World War II in Italy and received a Bronze Star for his heroism there. Arvel worked for Braznel in St. Louis from the age of 16 until his retirement as a plant manager in the Varnish Department. He was married to Hazelle Irene Bell for 51 years, and after her death married Iola Heins McGuire, who also preceded him in death. He is survived by one son, Christopher Brouk and wife, Thalia of Dixon; two daughters, Beverly Salemie and husband Bernard of Lanham, Md., and Merle Merrill and husband Gary of O'Fallon; two step-children, Larry McGuire and wife Patricia of Lawrence, Kan., and Sandra Ballenger and husband Ted of Jefferson City; one brother, Merhle Brouk and wife Carole of Lake Ozark; eight grandchildren, six step-grandchilden, six great- grandchildren, four step-great- grandchildren, two step-great-great-grandchildren, special friend, Donna Jurd, and other relatives and friends. Arvel was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Hazelle and Iola; a son, James Louis Brouk; and two brothers, Richard and Howard Brouk. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Reverend Father John Patrick Day, C.P. officiating. Interment will follow in Crow Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Brouk will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, at the Eaton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Susan G. Komen Race For the Cure. Arrangements are under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan.
