Jack Gill (Veteran)

Jack Gill, 100, formerly of Jefferson City, died on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James. Jack was born April 20, 1911, in Combs, Ark., to Joseph Rubin and Minnie Cluck Gill. He married Mary Ellen Tandberg on March 30, 1940. Mr. Gill was employed at Von Hoffmann Press for 26 years and retired in 1978. He served his country in the United States Army in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #2593 in Arnold and the Masonic Lodge in Columbia. Survivors include four sons, Dick Gill (Glenda) of Arnold, Bob Gill of Kirkwood, Jim Gill (GiGi) of St. Genevieve and Don Gill and special friend Cindy of Steeleville; one sister, Grace (Mrs. Mark Rennord) of Edmonds, Wash.; six grandchildren, Todd, Alex, Ross, Dan, Bryan, and Carolyn; eight great-grandchildren, Loren, Timothy, Briana, Olivia, Ava, Robin, David, and Adam. In addition to his wife (of 68 years) he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roland and wife Lydia; brother-in-law, Mark Rennord; and special daughter-in-law, Margaret. A private memorial service will be held in Steeleville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James.
