James Hartman (Veteran)

James R. Hartman, 70, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011, at his home. He was born October 25, 1940, in Sherman, Texas, a son of Howard W. and Betty G. (Evans) Hartman. He graduated from high school in Washington, Indiana, and went on to graduate from Vincennes Indiana University in Vincennes, Indiana. On August 5, 1965, James was united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church, to Carolyn K. Mueller, who has been his best friend for 43 years, and survives at their home. James was a veteran of the United States Air Force from 1963 - 1965. He was a computer technician, and worked with RCA and Univac at the Missouri Department of Revenue in Jefferson City; with Control Data and South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, South Dakota, where he retired. After retiring, he enjoyed woodworking, exploring Missouri, and eating Spam Pizza. Along with his wife Carolyn, James is also survived by two daughters: Dana E. Smith (husband Graham) of Rapid City, S.D.; Heather L. Thomas (husband Kelly) of Carson City, Nev.; three grandchildren: Eli Thomas, Eva Thomas, Ean Thomas; his father: Howard W. Hartman of Henderson, Texas; and one brother: David C. Hartman (wife Patricia) of Mount Enterprise, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother: Betty G. Hartman. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 28, 2011, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Heart of Missouri Humane Society.
