Kent Rose

Mr. Kent A. Rose, age 62 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, January 22, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Kent was born February 27, 1948, in Waynesville, Mo., the son of Morton and Ruby Manes Rose. He was married on August 20, 1966, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Norma Mallicoat. He was a 1966 graduate of Jefferson City High School. Kent was born and raised in Missouri during his early childhood. He moved to Kentucky in 1958 with his family. At the age of 16, he moved back to Jefferson City with his parents and remained in Jefferson City after he married his high school sweetheart in 1966. He later relocated to Loose Creek, Mo., with his wife and family where he lived for 25 years. After 33 years as a Production Supervisor, he retired from Von Hoffmann Press in March 2000. He formerly owned and operated Fairway Golf in Loose Creek where he built custom golf clubs and did golf club repair work part time. He was a Golfsmith certified club fitter/club maker. He moved back to Jefferson City in October 2006 and worked part time for four years at Jefferson City Manor in the maintenance department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City. He was a former member of the Golfsmith Club Maker Association and a former member of the Osage County Country Club. He was President of the Board of Directors of Life Stream Ministries from 1970 until 1998. He was a current member of Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield, Mo. Kent was well liked by everyone who knew him. He loved sports and focused on baseball as a child. Later, he lettered in high school basketball when he lived in Kentucky. After returning to Jefferson City in 1964, he continued to enjoy all types of sports and played fast pitch softball for the BCD and Keating teams. He coached his son's little league baseball team for years. He loved being with his children and grand kids. He attended their functions and supported them in their various school and sports activities and celebrated with them in their academic and athletic achievements. He enjoyed RV camping in Majestic Oaks Park at the Lake of the Ozarks where he and his wife kept their RV for 15 years. Kent and his wife wintered in Arizona several times after his retirement. But Kent's main passion in life was golf. He was an avid golfer and he played as often as he could. He had the good fortune in his lifetime to golf at courses in 26 different states, plus many courses right here in Missouri. Survivors include: his wife, Norma Rose; one son, Keith Rose and his wife Beverly of Wardsville, Mo.; one daughter, Karla Wolfmeier of Taos, Mo.; his parents, Morton and Ruby Rose of Ozark, Mo.; one sister, Luetta Bishop and her husband Peter of Houston, Texas; and six grandchildren, Luke Rose, Jenni Rose, Levi Rose, Lane Rose, all of Wardsville, Mo., and K.C. Wolfmeier and Kassidy Wolfmeier, both of Taos, Mo. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 26, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 27, 2011, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the First Baptist Church.
