Norman Barrows

Norman Mark Barrows, 65, of Holts Summit, Mo., died Thursday, January 20, 2011, at his residence. He was born on July 14, 1945, in Kahoka, Mo., the son of the late Levi Abbott and Marie Amelia Wollam Barrows. He was married on Sept. 18, 1965, in Kahoka, Mo., to Anita Kay Richey who survives at the home. Mr. Barrows was a 1963 graduate of Kahoka High School; a 1970 graduate of Hannibal/LaGrange Junior College; and a 1972 graduate of Northeast Missouri State University. He retired on July 31, 2000, as Director of Fiscal Operations for Farm Bureau Town & Country Insurance Company of Missouri where he had been employed for 22 years. He had previously served as Director of Audits and Compliance with the Missouri Department of Agriculture. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam Conflict where he served as an Electronics Technician. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kahoka, Mo. Mr. Barrows enjoyed the art of woodworking; hunting with his brothers and best friend, Sam; and loved most of all his family and grandchildren. He will also be greatly missed by his canine buddy, Maggie. Other survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Ann (Christopher) Burruss, Holts Summit, Mo.; and Amelia Rae Raithel, Jefferson City; four grandchildren, Kelsey Burruss and Caleb Burruss, both of Holts Summit; and Benjamin Raithel and Seth Raithel, both of Jefferson City.; four sisters, Geraldine Leach, Evans, Ga.; Marilyn Zinnert, Kahoka, Mo.; Carolyn Barrows, Jefferson City; and Ina Lou (Neal) Wray, Centerview, Mo.; and three brothers, Guy (Beverly) Barrows, Revere, Mo.; Lester (Nadine) Barrows, Jefferson City; and Raylee (Sandra) Barrows, Harlingen, Texas. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Leroy Barrows and Thara Allen Barrows. Funeral services with will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2011, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, Jefferson City, with the Rev. E. Frank Whitney of Union Hill Baptist Church officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Monday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.
