Judith May (Wehmeyer) Smith, 71, off Yuma, Ariz., passed away Thursday, January 13, 2011, at her home, after a lengthy illness. Judy was born on January 22, 1939, in New Franklin, the daughter of Lloyd and Olga C. Wehmeyer. She graduated from New Franklin High School in 1957. Judy was married to Paul Allen Mitzel in 1958, who proceeded her in death. She was united in marriage, January 12, 1985, to Ronald D. Smith, who survives at the home. She was a homemaker and worked many years for GMAC and the City of Yuba City, Calif. Judy loved to travel and had many friends across the western states as well as Central Missouri. She also had a passion for preserving garden vegetables, making pickles, jams and jellies, drying herbs and fruits and cooking. Along with her husband Ron, Judy is survived by three sons, Paul A. Mitzel Jr. and Roger E. Mitzel, both of Oroville, Calif., John Thomas Mitzel of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Leon Wehmeyer and his wife Dorothy of Bella Vista, Ark., and William (Bill) Wehmeyer and his wife Betty Ann of Holts Summit. Upon Judy's request, her body was donated to science and no services will be held. Memorial contributions are suggested to the New Franklin High School Alumni Association General Scholarship Fund in memory of Judy. Contributions should be mailed to the N.F.H.S.
