Richard L. Lukacs

Richard L. Lukacs, age 79, of Sunrise Beach, formerly of Sedalia, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. He was born July 23, 1931 in Hammond, Ind., the son of Eugene and Erma (Papp) Lukacs. On June 17, 1956, at First United Methodist Church in Sedalia, he married Katherine (Lambirth) Lukacs and they enjoyed 53 wonderful years together. Katherine preceded him in death on November 1, 2009. He was raised and educated in Griffith, Ind., graduating from Griffith High School in 1949. He worked as a plumber for 38 years with Lambirth Plumbing, Mid-Mo Plumbing and L&L Plumbing. He and his wife were both active in PTA and youth sports. He was an active coach for several years for little league softball, baseball and soccer teams. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and woodworking. He also loved his three dachshunds, Rusty, Maggie and Bruno. He served in the United States Air Force and is a Korean War veteran. While living in Sedalia, he was an active member of First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Methodist Men's Group. After he and Katherine moved to Sunrise Beach in 1994, they attended Ozark Chapel in Laurie where he remained active in the Methodist Men's Group. He is survived by four children, Kay Faubian and her husband Craig, of Chesapeake, Va., Barbara Rollins of Chandler, Ariz., Nancy Lukacs of Sunrise Beach, and Richard Lukacs and his wife Shari, of Jefferson City; three siblings, Frank Lukacs of Michigan, Betty Boris and her husband Mark, of Indiana, and Ed Lukacs and his wife Beverly, of Arkansas; a sister-in-law, JoAnne Lambirth of Sedalia; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eugene Lukacs; and a brother-in-law, Claude Lambirth. Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard White officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends before the funeral service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
