John Modelski (Veteran)

John Stanley Modelski, 84, of St. Louis, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at St. Anthony's Hospice deGreeff House in St. Louis. He was born January 1, 1926, in St. Louis, the son of Joseph and Marie Doba Modelski. On September 20, 1947, he married Mary Kathleen "Kay" Johnson at St. Barbara's Church in St. Louis. John proudly served his country as a Parachute Packer, United States Marine Corps Reserve. He was honorably discharged as Marine Corporal E-4. Upon his discharge, he provided for his family through his work at the St. Louis Globe Democrat, Clean Coverall Supply, Auto Drive-Away and the Missouri Department of Revenue, Division of Field Services. He is survived by his wife Kay; his daughter, Doris Ann and son-in-law David T. Broeker of Jefferson City; his daughters-in-law, Linda Modelski of St. Louis, and Donna Modelski, state of Virginia; his grandchildren, William and Kristen Modelski of St. Louis, Katie and Scott Wilbers of Jefferson City, and Sarah Broeker of Kansas City; his cherished great-granddaughter, Avery Nicole Wilbers of Jefferson City; and friend and co-hort, Ed Banek of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Stanley John Modelski; his sister, Jean Riley; brothers-in-law, Jack Johnson and Elmus "Bud" Johnson; and sisters-in-law, Margaret "Peggy" Johnson and Rita Johnson. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Anthony's Hospice deGreeff Hospice House, St. Louis, Mo, 63128.
