Goldie Brune

Goldie Esther Brune, age 98, of Brinktown, departed this life Saturday, January 1, 2011, in the St. Elizabeth Care Center. Mrs. Brune had been in failing health for some time. She was born December 22, 1912, near Meta, in Maries County, a daughter of Arthur and Katie (Breeding) Wilson. Mrs. Brune was united in marriage on May 23, 1939, at Brinktown, to Philip August Brune and to this union, three children were born. Mrs. Brune was a member of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Brinktown; the Ladies Auxiliary of both the Argyle Knights of Columbus Council No. 2047, and the Brinktown Lischwe-Brandel American Legion Post No. 354; the Brinktown Ladies Club where she loved the socializing with fellow club members; the Missouri State Teachers Association; and a past president and member for over 40 years of the Alpha Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a sorority promoting excellence in education. Mrs. Brune was an avid conservator of nature for future generations; delighted in her flower gardens and tending them; and in earlier years enjoyed needlework including sewing and quilting. Mrs. Brune began her working life in 1931 at the age of 19 as a school teacher and for the next 17 years taught in numerous small country schools. For the last 17 years of her career, she taught in St. Elizabeth and after a total of 34 years of teaching children, she retired in 1977. Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Brune include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Pete Brune, Brinktown, and Jim and Norine Brune, Blue Springs; one daughter, Phyllis McCann, Catawissa; two grandchildren, Russell and wife, Michele Brune, West Bend, Wisconsin, and Mary Beth and husband Troy Phipps, Helendale, California; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Brune, Keller Phipps, and Izabelle Phipps; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Virginia and Bill Ripka, Granite City, Illinois, and Shirley Lough, St. Louis; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband on August 13, 1997; one son-in-law, Gregg McCann on October 16, 2006; one grandson, Gregory Brune on August 30, 1990; her father on June 28, 1979; her mother on May 26, 1960; two brothers, Arthur Wilson on April 13, 1987 and Leonard Clay Wilson on April 11, 1992; and two sisters, Thelma Duncan on February 7, 2007 and Mildred Veasman on January 3, 2008. Funeral services under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes will be conducted for Mrs. Brune at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2011, in the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Brinktown, with the Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz officiating. Interment will be in the Guardian Angels Cemetery, Brinktown. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, January 4, 2011 and 9-10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2011, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. A Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary Memorial Service will be conducted for Mrs. Brune at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, followed by a Prayer Service led by the Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz. Masses or memorial contributions to the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Brinktown, are suggested by the family of Mrs. Brune with envelopes available at the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.
