George "Pete" Wohlt, age 85, of Middlesex, Vermont, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011, in Middlesex. He was born July 22, 1925, in Hermann, Missouri, the son of the late Albert Sr. and Ida Twiman Wohlt. On November 23, 1946, in Lone Elm, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Lillian Schnack, who survives of the home. When he was growing up, he enjoyed working on his father's steamboats. Also in his earlier years, he enjoyed bowling on a league, Boy Scouts, camping with his family and trout fishing. George was a Merchant Marine Coast Guard having served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a commercial printer for Von Hoffmann Press for over 40 years until his retirement. He and Lillian retired in 1988, and resided at the Lake of the Ozarks until 2010 when they moved to Vermont. At the lake, George enjoyed fishing, hunting, and helping others. He helped construct and was active at the Kent Memorial Lutheran Church in Sunrise Beach. He was a member of the American Legion Post 5 in Jefferson City. In addition to his wife Lillian, he is survived by two sons, Jeff Wohlt of Jefferson City and Ken Wohlt and wife Trina Pot Wohlt of Middlesex, Vermont; his four wonderful grandchildren that he was so proud of, Alex and Wesley Wohlt and Meghan and Jonathon Wohlt; his sister, Mildred Wohlt Wright of Hermann; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Wohlt Jr. and his sister, Alberta Wohlt-Ellsenrath. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 3, at the Kent Memorial Lutheran Church in Sunrise Beach with Pastor Dave Beese officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson City. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
