Donald A. Hoffert, age 88, of Pocahontas, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011, at the Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas, Iowa. Donald Almon Hoffert was born April 22, 1922, near Havelock, Iowa. He was the son of Jack and Stella (Young) Hoffert. He attended Ware High School. Don served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 - 1946 during W.W. II. On March 27, 1947, Don married Kathryn Wolfe at Havelock. He worked as a warehouse foreman for Leighton Supply Co. at several of their locations throughout Iowa, for many of those years in Leighton's Fort Dodge location. He retired in 1990. Don enjoyed square dancing, woodworking and visiting with his many friends. He was the uncle of former state Veterans Ombudsman, Pat Rowe Kerr. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn "Kay" Hoffert, also a World War II veteran, of Pocahontas; son, Thomas Hoffert of Manteca, Calif.; grandsons, Timothy and Michael Hoffert; sisters, Darlene Goerner of Laurens and Kaye (Chas) Olson of Pocahontas; and several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Luella Buck Halder; Edythe MonSelle and Dorothy Blomberg. Donald is the uncle of Pat Rowe Kerr Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at the Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Iowa, with Pastor Clare DeBoef and Pastor John Kerr officiating.
